'real mardin' aka 'the penalty' is a Feature Length film about the rise of Brazilian football amongst a group of diverse street kids on the border of modern day syria and turkey.  


Synopsis

The film tells the story of a group of street youths in eastern Turkey that live amidst the aftermath of the war in neighbouring Syria . Disconnected from the world around them, they struggle to find purpose through a sport and counter culture they discover on the Internet known as Parcour & Street Football aka Futsal.

Despite having incredible raw talent they have no guidance or sense of self worth, until a mysterious man arrives in their town. Once the greatest mid-field captain in his country, he is now a disgraced and unrecognisable middle aged alcoholic drifter. His only plans were to come back to die in his hometown; until he discovers the kids and a passion he buried and forgot long ago.

Becoming each others source of hope, the underdogs struggle to find a unique chemistry that leads them on an odyssey to the World futsal championships in Europe. The success forces them to face difficult truths and beyond winning back pride for their struggling hometown and paying the risky loan they took to get there, they must also face their biggest obstacle ; To beat the idols they grew up emulating by learning to become artists in their own right.
